This is one of the play phone I had as a kid. This phone had a string you could
pull any where you went. This was one of my favorite toys
This is what one of my bikes looked like. My bike I loved to ride on a daily basis.
Did not like when winter got here it meant I had to be inside more
I really like playing with jump ropes alot. Chinses jump rope was the one I liked the most. I think I was the only one that could master just about every step.
How people supported play when I was younger
I can remember my parents engaging in play on a daily basis. Especially on the weekends in the summer time we would spend our time at the camp grounds. We would go fishing, bike riding, and swimming in the lake it was a joy to be doing things with my whole family. On friday nights in the winter time we would do movie night. I really enjoyed doing movie night, because we got to have popcorn as well. The movies were ones that were scary, so you had no ideal of what was going to happen. I would get excited because it was a family function.
I also remember playing outside alot with my friends that would come over. We would ride bikes, play chinese jump rope and do our own thing, but at night was my time with my parents, so it was all cool. My dad was a working man, but he always made time for his children at night. We would go on walks, bike rides, or even just throw the ball in the back yard. If it was nice outside we was outside and not inside. We would also go at least once or twice a week and get ice cream for a special treat.
How you feel play today is similar or different from playtime back in the day, to playtime now.
After being in the education field and observing children. you can see how children are using thier imagination skills more in their free play. I feel there is a big difference in play now and how they played when I was growing up. Children now want to sit infront of a T.V, and play video games all the time. They do not go outside just to have fun. Children do not know how to go outside and have fun they think it is too hot or boring outside. When I was growing up we was always outside doing something you never thought of being inside. We would have are own little clicks of children we played with, but we always had fun at what we did. Children could play outside all day long and the parents did not have to worry about anything happening to their children. Today it is really different, because there has to be someone outside at all times with the children. The world has changed so much, but the playing has really not changed much. I think we need to monitor how long our children are playing video games children need to have a chance of free play on a daily basis.
Playing has made me to be the social person I am today. I think I am one that has learned through playing how to be social with everyone I come in contact with. When I was a child I would be the one to introduce myself to new people. I think being in brownies also helped me to over come being shy you had to learn to do things on your own and talk in front of a group of people.
I feel that even as adults we need to take time out of our busy schedule and play with our children or even grandchildren, so we can remember why we need to play. Play will help us to relax and not get so stressed out in a days time. My parents always taught us to be outside unless you was hurt or even sick, so playing outside was what I loved to do. I loved to be doing anything outside even if it was walking, riding a bike, fishing, or even jump rope. There was days I would even take a book outside to read.
