Final Blog Assignment

Three Consequences with working with international awareness:

1) After doing a lot of research and not getting anyone to respond and help me with information about the Philippines. I came across a pastor and his wife to help, but they were so busy it was hard to get in contact with them. I just wish I could of had more information to share with my colleagues about the country I chose to explore which was the Philippines.

2) Not being able to learn as much about the Philippines is another consequence. I know there is a lot I could have learned through other people, but in turn I am wanting to explore on the web and learn as much as possible to be able to share with anyone about education in another country.

3)  After exploring the other sites which was the alternative site for this class. There was some things I really had no clue was going on in other countries. That fact of knowing other countries deal with the same things, but just sometimes worse than we do. That is amazing to me you do not think of it being worse, but it can be.

My main goal I have set out for myself is to be able to explore more about the international awareness with dealing with Issue and Trends. Want to be able to research the web to know as much as possible about the Philippines when it comes to the way they run their education program.

Getting to Know International Contacts - Part 3

The first article that caught my eye was "Every child has the right to Education", and it is because every child should have the right to have a good education. It talks about "Even those children who do have access to school often suffer from poor quality education and leave school without having acquired basic skills". We as educators need to make sure we are in the teaching field to give these children the best education they deserve. Children need to have a good education to make it in this world today. They need to know the learning skills to be able to succeed in our society.

The second article I chose to explore was "Teaching pre-school children about the environment", this is one I thought was very interesting due "what children learn in early childhood strongly influences learning, health, and behaviour". They will know what the world is about, they will be able to socialize with other children, work out situations, express knowledge and interact with other children of the same age. Children who do not have the early childhood experience are ones who usually fall behind in school.

My last insight was the whole web site has a lot of good information for anyone to get some insight from. The UNESCO has good information about the education field. They are ones to help out other countries that are wanting to have more advice on their education field. I have really enjoyed exploring the web site, there is so much that you can learn from this web site.

Sharing Web Resources

When we first started this class wanted to explore the phillipines and had a pastor and his wife to exchange information, but that has not worked out so well. After exploring several different web sites the one that really stood out to me was http://www.nhsa.org/news_and_advocacy/advocacy/legislative_eupdate this because it has a lot to do with Head start. Wanted to see if the site was similar to what I work with everyday. This site lead me to information about head start, and this goes right along with what we have been talking about for the last couple of weeks. When exploring this site you can learn a lot about head start and the events, but most of all how it shapes the furture of Head Start.
After exploring the site found an area called service. This is where you can explore and learn a lot about the different services they offer to parents and children. There is a fund called dollar per child this is where they make sure the funds are in the proper place. I did not receive any type of news letter from the Phillipines at all. Was talking to a live person to find out about what happens over there. The site I chose I did not see anything that goes with this week's topic at all www.savethechildren.org, or www.childrensdefense.org. There is a lot of information that I have gained throughout exploring the different sites, but I felt the Head start site there was some good information that you could share with parents. Head start is a program that is based on your income, which i feel is very unfair, because there could be other children who need to engage in the program and can't. If we explore all of the different sites I believe we can learn something new from each site to carry back to our co-workers or even friends.

Getting to Know Your International Contacts-Part 2

Well when we started this project I had chosen a pastor and his wife to help me out since they have been in the Philippines, but that has not worked out to well. I still would like to explore the internet to find out a little about that country. After exploring the Harvard University site the three insight I gained from the Harvard University are as follows:

1)  Early childhood development one of their priority is to adapt a successful work center in the United States. There is a plan to educate the leadership, apply new information that will address the health and devlopmental needs of the children in different settings. They would like to address the quality in an early childhood development environment, and most of all the would like to expand and improve preschool quality in Chile.

2) The Global Children's initiative is to focus on three strategic objectives:

A) To reframe public discourse about the early childhood period: this can be done by educating high-level decisionmakers, and to underlying science of learning, behavior, and in health. There seems to be a lot of programs that do not engage in science, which this is something that is hard to engage in their learning, but if you come up with some fun things the children will love working with science.
B) To expand the global understanding of how the healthy development happens, but also how it can be derailed and get back on the right track. We can all go through this in any area of our classrooms, but we have to get back on the track to proceeed with their learning.
c) To build leadership caoacity in child development research and policy: there are three domains early childhood development, mental health, and children in crisis and conflict situations this will help to build a portiflio, implement new projects, and to be able to collaborate beyond the Harvard community.

3) Child Mental Health
There are some strategies to addressthe child mental health in china, to prevent mental health problems in children who may have been affected by Hiv/Aids in Rwanda, and also addressing child maltreatment and mental health outcomes in three caribbean nations. We as a whole need address all of these issues wheather we are in the United States or not. When working with children these are areas we need to focus on especially mental health and child maltreatment.
