Consequences of Stress on Children's Development

I chose to explore hunger only because when my dad was growing up alot of food he was given to eat for meals was usually stale or food that has been there for a while. He was one that would eat whatever was given to him because he was not sure when the next good meal was coming his way. When my dad was raising children he would work two jobs to make sure his children had what they needed on a daily basis.
I used to be a foster parent and seen alot of children come into my home that either got very little food to eat or they had no food in their home at all. When children were placed into my home the first thing we did was get them cleaned up and then I always made sure they had a good meal. As a parent I always make sure there is some kind of food in my house for the children to eat even if it is peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. All the children that are in my house know they can eat until they are full and can have anything they want just as long as they eat it and do not waste the food. I have always told them there are children in other countries that do not have what we have, so please do not waste food.

The country I chose to explore was Hunger in China, and found out some amazing things I did not know. China is one of the largest producers and consumers of the agricultural products. There is about 40% of china's labor force that is engaged in the agricultural, but there is only about 10% of the land which is suitable for culivation or agricultural. China is very limited to the amounts of food that they can grow. There is around 30 million people in the China area who are starving because they do not get enough food supply on a daily basis. This is one that really amazed me, but you do hear about it everyday of kids going hungry all the time which really hurtd my feelings.

Child Development and Public Health

I chose to explore immunization. This topic is very meaningful without having the children with their immunization they would get any disease coming and going. Immunization helps you and your from different diseases. this will also help to reduce the spread of diseases to other people as well. Most of the immunizations are done by a shot, but some are in a liquid form too. There are some reason why we should get our children their immunization shots. Immunization shots will protect the child from dangerous diseases. It will also reduce the spread of diseases to other people and children. The main thing it cost less to have your child immunized, then to be treated for a disease. Vaccines have very little side effects. You need to be up to date on all of your shots to be able to go to another country, enter school or even daycare.

Another country that I chose to look at on the immunization was Italy. In Italy there are three vaccine- preventable diseases (Polio, Diphtheria, and Tetanus) are controlled by the compulsory immunization of all new borns. These are the main three shots that they give in Italy. The schools in Italy also require that the children have all of their required shots before entering school. The mumps immunization is another shot that is recommended, but the vaccine is not yet marketed in Italy. I thought that was very interesting to recommend a shot, but say it is not yet marketed in their country.

Birthing Experience

Write about a personal birthing experience. It can be your own birth, your child's birth, or one you took part in. What do you remember about the event? Why did you choose this example? What are your thoughts regarding birth and its impact on child development?

Well for me the birthing experience that I remember is when my daughter was being born it is an experience I will never forget only, because I was awake for most of it. My baby was suppose to be born around the first of May, and after having several stress test she still did not come until the last day of May.  I was scheduled to go to the hospital the next morning for them to induce me, but my water had broke at 2:30 in the morning. The labor was a very long process she did not come until 5:30 P.M after doing a c-section birth. I was very excited when I got to hold her for the first time. I do remember most of the labor only because it was not suppose to be a c-section until they figured out that I could not have babies natural. I chose to explore this one only because it was my first birth and it was very challenging as well. I did anything and everything to go into labor, but it did not happen she was coming when she was ready. I think as parents we should take part in a child development class before deciding to have children of our own. I feel the class would give us insight of what to expect in raising a child.

Choose a region of the world or a country, other than the U.S., and find out how births happen there. Write about what you learned, and the differences and similarities with your experience (in the personal example you provided). What additional insights, if any, about the impact of the birthing experience on development, did you gain from this comparison?

The coutry I chose to explore on was France, but the main reason I chose this country is because my grandchildren's last name is France wanted to see how their birthing went. When a women thinks she is pregnant they must be examed by a doctor, gynaecologist or a midwife. After the first exam the doctor issues a three-part document to declare the pregnancy. This is a process that needs to be done within three months, but no later than fourteen weeks. a pink sheet is sent to the health insurance fund, blue sheets are sent to the family allowance fund. The birth will usually take place in a maternity hospital and usually by a mid-wife. Parents are asked to reserve a hospital place long in advance. Epidurals are  happily given to any women who wants one. General hospital stay is about three days. Home births and natural births are not common in France.
