Welcoming Families From Around the World

*                                              Welcoming Families From Around the World

At least five ways in which you will prepare yourself to be culturally responsive towards this family

*    The name of the family’s country is Philippines. I chose this one due to my pastor and their family being over there. They would say things that need to be done to help them out. I would want to be able to know about my own family culture, so I could understand about their culture as well. Want to learn how to speak in their language and to know how to do sign language. I would be willing to step out of my little comfort zone and to see how I would treat people that are from a different country. I would engage their culture within my classroom setting. Make sure the labels are in a language that the children can read. I would love to work with children and families on speaking another language.

A brief statement describing in what ways you hope that these preparations will benefit both you and the family

I hope that someday I could speak the language they do, and not make them feel so out of place. I would want to know as much about their culture, traditions, so I could better understand why they do certain things. By knowing what the Philippines do on a daily basis would help me to know their concept of certain things and why they do it a certain way.
